What is it?

It is basically like a set-top video box or powerhouse , which is quite small and plays your content from iTunes, YouTube , Netflix etc. on your widescreen T.V.he latest version of the Apple T.V. shows anything at upto 1080p HD.

The 3 Generations

The Apple T.V was released on 9 January 2007 .It has 3 Generations.


    1st Generation Apple TV

  1. 1st Generation- This generation was released in Jan'07 as the first Apple T.V and was discontinued with the release of the second generation.The Operation System used a modified build of MacOS X 10.4"Tiger".It weighed 1.1 Kg(A lot more that the 2nd and 3rd generation. It is a 200X200(mm) product.

  1. 2nd Generation- It was released on September 1,2010 and discontinued with the release of the third generation.It used the Operating system - iOS 4.1 and higher.It weighs just 0.27 kg and is just 99X99(mm).With a 256 MB memory and Apple A4 processor, it proves itself to be a very good model.

  1. 3rd Generation- It was released on March 7,2012 and is still in production.it is just like the 2nd Generation but supports iOS 5.1 and higher and also uses a Apple A5 processor...

Control

It can be controlled by an infra-red remote control.
An advanced thing related to this was released by the Apple Inc. on July 28,2008.Apple released Remote which was a application which could be downloaded from the 'App Store' that allowed the iPhone , iTouch or iPad to control the iTunes library on the Apple T.V via Wi-fi.

Airplay

This feature lets the user enjoy his content from his iOS device on his HD TV.
Basically, This feature allows to stream content from the iOS device to your TV via Apple TV.This feature is most useful when you connect he device to the TV.When this is done,then whatever you do on your device is shown on the big screen.

 Speakers attached to an AirPort Express or Apple TV can be selected from within the "Remote" iPhone/iPod Touch program, allowing full AirPlay compatibility..

  • Users can access the iTunes Store directly through Apple TV to rent movies and TV shows and stream audio and video podcasts. While the first generation of the Apple TV could purchase content, the second generation lacks a hard drive, and thus cannot store purchased content. Instead, users would need to buy content on a computer and stream it to the Apple TV.Since 2008, podcasts have been served on the Apple TV as other kinds of video, as opposed to in RSS and similar feeds.Until mid-March 2009, the Apple TV was the only way to purchase HD iTunes content.
